Canberra Model

An unusual version of the English Electric Canberra Jet. A cast aluminium model of the prototype B(1) mk 8 Interdictor, aircraft VX185, with distinctive modified fighter style canopy and wing tip jettison fuel tanks. Presented in all black prototype RAF livery, on original stand. By the excellent English model makers Westway, circa 1955. The English Electric Canberra VX185 was a historically significant jet aircraft that famously set a record-breaking double-crossing of the Atlantic Ocean on August 26, 1952. The flight took 10 hours 3 minutes and 29.38 seconds, averaging a speed of 411.99 mph. The English Electric Canberra was an extremely versatile bomber which was manufactured by British company English Electric. It went into service with the Royal Air Force (RAF), the type's first operator, in May 1951, becoming the service's first jet-powered bomber. Amazingly, Canberra aircraft were still in operation up until 2006. Dimensions: 27.5cm/10¾ inches (length) x 27 cm/10⅝ inches (wing span) x 16 cm/6¼ inches (max. on stand height).
