Ralph Waldo Emerson was born in Boston Massachusetts on May 25, 1803 to Ruth Haskins in William Emerson. His father a minister died when Emerson was eight. Emerson and his four brothers were raised by their mother with help from extended family. Emerson entered Harvard College at 14. At college he began keeping a journal which became a lifelong practice leading to many of the themes on which he later wrote essays. Wonderfully bound small volume - Appx 6 3/4" x 4 1/4". 32 pages
