Argillite Four Figure Totem Pole

This Four Figure Totem Pole was hand-carved in argillite by Haida artist Lewis (Louis) Collinson. At the base of the pole is a Bear, holding a human figure. Atop this is a Frog, followed by another Bear. It was professionally cleaned up by argillite carver Darrell White. The Bear Symbol represents strength, family, vitality, courage, and health. The bear is thoughtful and independent, with little need for fellowship. The bear is also self-contained and strong-willed in nature. A Bear is of great support and comfort to those who crave human company simply for personal reassurance rather than for the simple pleasure of being with friends. The pole measures approximately 6 1/8 inches or 15 1/2 centimeters high, 2 inches or 5 centimeters wide, and 2 1/4 inches or 6 centimeters deep.
