April 18 (SAT, 10 AM–4 PM) Shetland knitters are famous for their beautiful “one piece” shawl construction. Learn a simple, modern method for knitting a traditional hap shawl from the center out while keeping the details that make a Shetland shawl unique. Together, with professional pattern designer Donna Kay, you’ll be knitting a sample size in class using traditional yarns and pattern stitches. Learn the techniques for picking up border stitches and adding the lace edging. Chart reading, finishing and blocking will be covered in detail. You’ll leave this upbeat and inspiring single day class with instructions on how to make a beautiful full-size shawl at home! Skill Level: Intermediate. Must be intermediate knitting skills and have some lace knitting experience. Materials List: Please bring a 24 “ circular needle, a few locking pin stitch markers, tapestry needle and scissors. Known for her patient teaching manner, she delights in sharing her knowledge and passion for "folk" knitting with her students. Donna is also a freelance knitwear designer and author for publications such as Interweave Knits, Spin Off, PLY, and her company, Tree of Life Designs. She resides on a farm in New Hampshire with her husband, horses, a flock of sheep, and a growing herd of spinning wheels.
