The work combines relief printing with the direct impression methods of Gyotaku, a process I refer to as Linotaku. The mackerel’s elongated, streamlined form translates beautifully through the linocut, capturing the subtle variations along its body, delicate fin structures. The blue-green ink establishes the fish’s weight and movement, while the natural absorbency of the Xuan paper softens the impression, introducing gentle textures and tonal variations that shift with the light. Printed on a single large sheet of paper. Each print is hand-pulled, so every impression carries subtle variations, making each piece truly unique. Part of my ongoing exploration of marine life through direct printing processes, simple materials, and careful observation, this piece celebrates the energy and elegance of the mackerel in a bold, large-format scale.
