Genovese Basil

Genovese basil is the classic Italian basil. Renowned for its generous, spoon-shaped, bright-green leaves and an unmistakable sweet aroma, it is the soul of authentic Mediterranean cooking. Unlike more pungent or peppery cultivars, Genovese offers a smooth, balanced sweetness that holds up beautifully without turning bitter. It is the essential ingredient for true Genovese pesto, pairs naturally with sun-ripened tomatoes and fresh mozzarella, and brings a fragrant lift to pasta dishes, sauces, and summer salads. The plants are vigorous, upright, and exceptionally productive, reaching around 45–60 cm in height. Whether grown in greenhouse borders, sunny outdoor beds, or kitchen containers on a warm patio or windowsill, it produces abundant flushes of lush, tender foliage right through the summer months.
