Vintage 15ct Gold, Silver, Rose-Cut Diamond & Garnet-Eyed Crocodile Brooch

A wonderfully characterful vintage crocodile brooch, believed to date to the late 20th century, featuring an intricately modelled crocodile set with sparkling rose-cut diamonds in silver, with a ruby eye and gold detailing. The crocodile is beautifully modelled with its jaws wide open, intricately detailed scales and a wonderfully curled tail. Its body is decorated with sparkling rose-cut diamonds set in darkened silver, while the tiny, deep raspberry-red garnet eyes give this rather fierce-looking creature a mischievous expression. The darkened silver setting provides a lovely contrast to the gentle sparkle of the diamonds, while the tiny ruby eye adds a rather mischievous flash of colour. Although not an original Victorian piece, this brooch takes its inspiration from the extraordinary animal jewellery of the 19th century.
