Oil Painting with Jessica Masters

Instructor: Jessica Masters Painting with oils captures the light, surface and atmosphere of a subject like no other medium, and it is flexible, allowing the artist to be expressive and abstract, or to render the subject with accurate realism. This workshop will teach you how to handle oil paint with the confidence you need to create images filled with light, colour and atmosphere. Whether you’re new to the medium or an experienced painter this workshop will develop new skills and challenge your approach to working. In this workshop you will learn to: - Mix colour with confidence - Simplify your subject and build your painting in stages - Develop skillful brush work to keep colours and shapes clean and bright - Create a strong focal point to express your meaning - Learn how and when to use mediums - Discussions throughout the 2 days will explore topics on colour including value structures, saturation, simplified palettes, and colour temperature. Workshop includes: - Painting demonstrations that will take you through the entire painting process - Colour mixing demonstration - Exercises designed to teach concepts - Slide show to support concepts - Group discussions - Individual tutoring to deal with your specific needs and goals - Printed handouts of course information Materials Required Oil Colours: - Hansa Yellow light - Permanent Rose - Phthalo Blue - Cobalt Blue - Titanium White - Ivory Black Brushes: A selection of brushes in suggested size range of #4, #6, #8 in Filberts and Rounds. I favour having both hog hair brushes and synthetic in each size. Count on having roughly 6 brushes so you can keep your colours clean. Note: Please bring the listed brushes, but if you also have brushes in other sizes/types and aren't sure how to use them, feel free to bring them in and we can discuss and organize them together.
