Both sides are tattooable, so you can reserve one face for artwork and the reverse for tests. From individual exercises to complete compositions Start with straight lines, curves, circles, or lettering strokes. Then bring those exercises together in a portrait, floral study, geometric layout, or traditional flash design. The full-page format lets you work through stencil placement, outlines, shaded forms, and colour sections within one composition. Keep the drawing and other settings consistent when comparing line weights. Shading, colour studies, and equipment tests Divide an unused area into gradients, stippled sections, or pigment swatches. This gives you a reference for comparing tonal steps and neighbouring colours without repeating an entire drawing. Experienced artists can also use the surface to try a different machine or technique. Record the settings beside each sample, then photograph the results for later comparison. Stencil preparation Prepare the drawing with 4-layer thermal transfer paper, leaving margins within the canvas edges. Other formats are available in our Stencil and Transfer Paper collection. The manufacturer specifies an alcohol-and-Speed-Stick transfer mixture applied with a paper towel, rather than applying the stick directly to the canvas. Hold the stencil for 5 to 10 seconds, peel it carefully, blow-dry for 5 to 10 minutes, and leave it overnight before starting. Working surface and setup Synthetic material responds differently from human skin. Treat these exercises as comparisons on this canvas, not as a prediction of results on another surface.
