Rejuvenation Wearable Sculpture
Rejuvenation is a wearable sculpture that continues Lilia Munn’s exploration of transforming her digital artwork into new forms of artistic expression. The piece is inspired by Heat Wave, an original digital painting created entirely through Munn’s eye movements using proprietary vision-tracking technology. As an artist living with Rett Syndrome, Munn creates beyond traditional hand-based methods, using her eyes as her primary artistic tool to translate thought, emotion, and movement into visual form. Inspired by the sculptural garment practice of artist Nick Cave, Rejuvenation transforms Munn’s original artwork into a dynamic wearable form. Every material choice within the piece carries personal and artistic significance, creating a connection between Munn’s artwork, fashion practice, and lived experience. The floral sleeves worn by the figure are repurposed from sleeves Munn uses to embellish her arm braces, which provide support for more intentional arm and hand movement. By incorporating these elements into the sculpture, Munn transforms a functional object into an expressive artistic component, highlighting the intersection between accessibility, identity, and creative expression. The piece also incorporates materials from Munn’s broader wearable art practice. The butterflies featured throughout the top are adorned with silk fabric from her Heat Wave silk scarves, while the nests woven into the branches are embellished with beads and charms from her jewelry collections. These carefully curated details create a visual ecosystem where past artworks and wearable creations become part of a larger narrative of transformation and renewal. Rejuvenation reflects on the aftermath of the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, exploring the relationship between destruction and renewal. Through vibrant colors, layered materials, and organic sculptural elements, the work captures the intensity of fire while celebrating nature’s resilience and the possibility of transformation after change. Rejuvenation debuted at The Art Parade presented by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) in collaboration with Jeffrey Deitch, where Munn joined artists transforming public space through movement, sculpture, and performance. Her participation reflects her ongoing commitment to expanding the boundaries between art, fashion, technology, and accessibility. Rejuvenation is one of five works in Munn’s upcoming Heat Wave exhibition, presented October 19–23 at the California Institute of the Arts, where she is completing her BFA in Visual Art. Through her multidisciplinary practice, Munn continues to redefine what artistic creation can look like — proving that imagination, innovation, and collaboration can create entirely new pathways for expression.
