Blue on Blue 24 x 24

Seven Blue Birds rest on branches of white Japanese Blossoms. The antique blue/green background shows all the layers and brushwork of the paint. Each bird sits a little differently — some perched, some in mid step, each turned a different way. I start with a graphite drawing on wood panel, then build the painting with about thirty layers — oils, washes, glazes, and metal leaf. 24" × 24" original on wood panel with a 2.25" gold-leafed edge. One of a kind.
