Handcrafted Lue Brass Clip

Hand-forged from a single length of brass, this Japanese brass clip holds almost anything you put in front of it — a fold of bills, a thick stack of papers, the page you don't want to lose. Metalworker Ruka "Lue" Kikuchi makes each one in Setouchi City, in Japan's Okayama Prefecture, hammering it by hand from one piece of solid brass. No two come out quite alike: each carries the small marks of the tools that shaped it, along with Kikuchi's own signature or studio mark pressed into the metal. Slide it over a paperback to hold your place, clip it around a fold of cash, or use it to hold a thick stack of papers together on the desk — the loop opens wide enough for more than a sheet or two. Left alone, the brass will darken into a deep patina as it meets air and the oils of your hands; polished, it returns to a bright gold. Either way, it's made to be handled, not put away.
