Artist's Note: Winter Castle on Snow For the last few months, I’ve had a copy of Monet’s The Magpie displayed in my living room. His use of undertone and shadow is just gorgeous. It wasn’t until after I finished painting this pen that I realized I must have been subconsciously influenced in my color choices—I had been attempting to distinguish the types of white in a snowy landscape from the base white of the pen. The castle is based on Neuschwanstein.
