Flea Market Item - Friand Tin Fancies 10

A charming collection of vintage French sewing notions in an old friand tin that we think would make a perfect pincushion! Nestled inside are gorgeous little pieces of French mercerie history that we have found during our adventures in the French markets. The set includes a pair of small steel needlework scissors with wonderfully darkened patina, a traditional metal thimble, a reel of soft blush-pink thread and an especially lovely old card of cream mending thread marked “Tymannia Brand – 10 Patent.” The heart-shaped Tymannia card with its original typography is a particularly appealing piece of haberdashery ephemera, while the simple utilitarian scissors show the wear of many years of use. Together, the pieces have the feeling of a genuine old household sewing kit rather than a formal sewing set. We would broadly date the contents to the early to mid-20th century, approximately 1920s–50s, with the scissors possibly being among the earlier pieces.
