Black Gilt Art Deco - Omega Medicus from 1935 This exceptional Omega Medicus from 1935 takes us back to an era when the wristwatch was still evolving into the essential instrument we know today. The Medicus name is particularly interesting: Omega introduced these watches in the 1930s with a central seconds hand, a feature still relatively uncommon at the time and especially practical for doctors and other professionals who needed to measure short intervals at a glance. What makes this example truly captivating is its untouched glossy black gilt dial. Silver Arabic numerals and minute track emerge beautifully from the deep black surface, while the original syringe hands complete its unmistakable Art Deco appearance. Finding such an early black dial preserved in this condition is particularly difficult, making the dial the defining feature of this watch. The 31 mm stainless steel case reflects the elegant proportions of the mid-1930s, with long lugs giving it considerably more presence on the wrist than its diameter might suggest. It has been professionally polished according to Omega factory specifications, preserving the clean geometry of the original design. Inside beats the manually wound Omega Cal. 23.4 SC. The “SC” refers to seconde au centre - central seconds - distinguishing it from the more conventional subsidiary-seconds watches of the period and forming an important part of the Medicus concept.
