SmartEye 2" Digital Telescope Eyepiece & Cooled Astrophotography Camera - PEG-SMARTEYE
SmartEye brings electronically assisted astronomy and astrophotography directly to the eyepiece. Insert it into a compatible telescope, connect power, and watch celestial objects build in brightness, detail, and color as the device automatically stacks captured images. The Sony IMX533 color CMOS sensor captures approximately 9-megapixel images at 3008 × 3008 resolution. SmartEye presents the result on a 2560 × 2560 Ultra High Definition display with a wide, circular 90° apparent field of view designed to preserve the experience of looking through a traditional eyepiece. A two-stage thermoelectric cooling system reduces sensor noise during longer exposures, while customizable exposure and gain controls support both near-real-time observing and astrophotography workflows. Images can be saved as FIT files to a customer-supplied microSD card. SmartEye operates independently through its physical rotary control or connects with compatible mobile devices and astronomy software. SkySafari Pro v7 or later, sold separately, adds live-view sharing, camera controls, image management, plate solving, and telescope alignment tools. ASCOM Alpaca and INDI support provide additional integration with astronomy equipment and imaging applications. The 2" nosepiece can be removed for use with an optional 1.25" barrel or suitable adapter. Compatible with telescopes that accept a 2" eyepiece. Recommended for telescopes at f/7 or faster. Slower telescopes may benefit from a focal reducer. A low-profile diagonal may be needed to maintain backfocus in some configurations. Designed for motorized equatorial or altazimuth mounts with sidereal tracking. Refractors and Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes can use a suitable diagonal; Newtonians can accept SmartEye directly where adequate focus travel is available. Supports threaded 2" astronomy filters. Compatibility guidance What’s Included SmartEye digital eyepiece with protective caps 1.0 m USB-C to USB-C power cable 12V-to-USB-C power adapter 2" nosepiece with M54 male and M48 female threads Protective hard case Usage and Care Remove the protective caps and eyepiece-lens protective film. Attach the 2" nosepiece and any compatible filter. Secure SmartEye firmly in the telescope focuser. Connect the included power cable and approved power source. Adjust the diopter until the display is sharp. Select New Observation to begin stacking. Adjust gamma, exposure, gain, or other settings as required. The manufacturer suggests 5–10 second integrations as a starting point to accumulate detail while limiting the effect of tracking errors. Available light-integration settings range from 5 to 30 seconds. Format and safely eject a microSD card through SmartEye’s storage menu. Never force-remove the card while the device is powered or saving data. Power and Safety Use the included 12V-to-USB-C adapter or a USB-C Power Delivery power bank rated at 30W or higher. The quick-start guide specifies a power-bank capacity of at least 30,000 mAh. Use a high-power USB-C cable supporting up to 5A; the included cable is recommended. Do not use USB-C adapters that supply 12V without proper Power Delivery negotiation. Do not connect a 24V or 48V source to the included adapter. Incorrect power equipment may damage SmartEye and void its warranty. Manufacturer power guidance Warranty Standard manufacturer’s warranty: 2 years. An optional SmartEye Care+ plan is listed separately at $499 USD. It provides three years of coverage, including accidental-damage coverage, and must be purchased within 60 days of receiving the device. The plan runs concurrently with the standard warranty and adds one year of mechanical and electrical breakdown coverage. Care+ terms
