After ten years in smaller barrels, this whisky has a fragrant grassy nose with dried apple, linseed and some light vanilla. The palate starts sweeter with a little biscuity malt and vanilla cream, some floral spice and a delicious delicate light spice on quite a long dry finish. Originally a mill, but remodelled as a distillery in 1878, Glen Spey sits in the centre of the village of Rothes next door to the Glenrothes Distillery and across the road from Forsyths the famous still-makers. Glen Spey’s production has a characteristic lightness from the purifiers fitted to the spirit stills which return vapours back for further distillation.
