Where wetlands areas are permanent, the swans are thought to be sedentary. However, if the wetlands dry out, they are capable of taking flight in search of suitable habitat. They have been sighted in semi-arid region including Central Australia, where there are semi-permanent and permanent waterholes. The coin’s coloured reverse depicts a magnificent black swan soaring above a picturesque lake set amongst a tranquil countryside. The background features a vibrant rainbow stretching across the sky with drifting clouds.
