Twenty years after he left for Troy, Odysseus lies awake in his own house, disguised as a beggar and watching strangers take it over. He wants to act and can’t yet, so he talks himself through the night: endure, my heart, you have endured worse before. The design carries the whole voyage. A Greek key border runs around the edge, a guiding star sits above the quote, and a ship sails along the bottom. It’s a cover for the long middle of a hard stretch, when the finish is in sight but not yet in reach. Our artisan partners in India, families we’ve worked with for more than a decade, deboss the design and stitch each repurposed leather cover, finished with natural vegetable dyes. A long string tie wraps twice around the cover to hold it closed. Odysseus made it home. So will you.
