It reduces fibre breakage and captures released microfibres inside the bag, helping protect your clothes and keep those fibres out of wastewater. Why we’re stocking GUPPYFRIEND Our responsibility to our dancewear doesn’t end when you take it home. Recycled synthetic fabrics can still shed microplastic fibres during washing, so choosing recycled materials is only part of the picture. We’ve added GUPPYFRIEND to help you look after your dancewear and reduce the fibres released with each wash. It’s a useful step towards better washing habits, without pretending there’s a perfect solution. Product details One reusable GUPPYFRIEND Washing Bag. Measures 50 × 74 cm. Helps reduce fibre shedding and collect released microfibres. Suitable for washing temperatures up to 40°C; always follow your garment’s care label. How to use your GUPPYFRIEND Place garments inside, filling the bag no more than two-thirds full so they can move freely. Close the zip fully and tuck the slider into its protective cover. Wash with liquid detergent, following the garment’s care instructions. Never exceed 30°C. Add other suitable non-synthetic laundry, or another filled GUPPYFRIEND bag, to help balance the load. Remove your garments after washing and allow the bag to dry. Collect fibres from the seams and corners and put them in your general waste bin. Do not rinse collected fibres down the sink. Do not tumble dry or iron the bag. Can I use it for ballet tights and leotards? Yes, machine washing Imperfect Pointes on a cool wash. Follow the temperature and programme specified for each garment. Using a washing bag does not make a hand-wash-only item machine washable. Do recycled fabrics still release microplastics? Yes. Recycled nylon and polyester are still synthetic materials and can shed plastic fibres. Using recycled yarn does not remove the need to consider what happens during washing. Does it eliminate microplastic pollution? No. GUPPYFRIEND helps reduce microfibre release during washing; it does not make synthetic clothing plastic-free or eliminate its environmental impact completely.
