Alpine R-Series Shallow Subwoofer Alpine RS-W12D2 12 Inch Shallow Subwoofer 600 watts RMS and 20 mm of Xmax from 3.25 inches of mounting depth. The RS-W12D2 gives a shallow 12 the same cone travel as Alpine's full-size R2 woofers, driven by a 4 inch voice coil and a neodymium motor, with dual 2 ohm coils for low-impedance wiring. 600W RMS 3.25 in Depth 20 mm Xmax Dual 2 Ohm Full-Size Excursion in a Shallow Basket Most shallow 12s give up excursion to save depth. The RS-W12D2 keeps 20 mm of one-way linear excursion and 54 mm of peak-to-peak mechanical travel in a 3.25 inch mounting depth. The cutout is 11-5/8 inches (295 mm), the frame is 12.82 inches across, and the driver displaces only 0.05 cubic feet, so it fits behind truck seats, in thin floor boxes and anywhere a full-depth 12 will not clear. Alpine's Gen2 DD Linear dual magnetic gap keeps the 4 inch voice coil under control at high excursion for lower distortion, and a neodymium magnet keeps the motor light and short. The coil former is vented, a cooling fin draws heat off the voice coil, and the frame is die-cast aluminum with a removable trim ring and an aluminum dust cap. The trim ring accepts Alpine's KTE-RS12G grille kit, sold separately. Wiring the Dual 2 Ohm Coils One woofer: coils in parallel give a 1 ohm load, coils in series give 4 ohms. Two woofers: wire each in series to 4 ohms and parallel the pair for a 2 ohm load. Alpine rates the RS-W12D2 at 600 watts RMS and 1800 watts peak, with a recommended amplifier range of 500 to 600 watts RMS per woofer. Alpine's Recommended Sealed Boxes Alpine designs the R-Series Shallow for sealed enclosures and gives a sealed range of 0.6 to 1.5 cubic feet net for the 12. These are Alpine's own recommended boxes, built from 3/4 inch MDF, with the F3 and Fb figures Alpine publishes for each.
