Blacksmith Carriage Maker Ledger 1864 Christian A. Boehm Camden, N.Y. Circa 1864-1868 250 Pages 14 ¾” X 6” ledger The 1864 ledger of Christian Boehm of Camden, New York, identified as a blacksmith and carriage maker, with about 250 pages, is a substantially more interesting piece of Americana than an ordinary old account book. I found independent historical evidence that Christian Boehm was a known person in Camden. The Pioneer History of Camden, N.Y. specifically lists him and, importantly, identifies property in Camden as being owned by Christian Boehm. The fact that it is identified by name, place, occupation and date is a major advantage. A generic "1864 blacksmith ledger" is considerably less desirable. Apparently this ledger may have been used in later years as a partial scrap book, as there are pasting of ads and news on less than 10 pages. This ledger shows that Boehm was quite busy.
