Embracing Imperfections

Embracing Imperfections is a creation by Jamie Miller. One-of-a-kind, only one piece available. During the creation of this piece, I was experimenting with hard-body paint because I wanted to create more perceived depth in my creations to generate more contrast between the base stone and the dots as well as incorporating movement by using a spiral pattern of different colours with less contrast between those colours for people to really pay attention and notice the pattern and colour. I paint intuitively, so I was unaware of how many dots were in each ring and it wasn’t until I was partway through painting this creation that I noticed that there was an odd number of dots in each ring, which then meant that there were two of the same colours next to each other, which initially I struggled with wanting to change the entire painting until I sat with it and embraced the perfectness of the imperfections. While writing this I am currently looking for the imperfections, which I am struggling to find at this point because I have embraced them so much because that is precisely what makes each creation unique. Looking back at this creation now has made me realize how much I have grown to embrace the imperfections which were once blindingly obvious, to now actively looking and being unable to see the imperfections in this creation. There are some dents and also air-bubbles from the casting, which with this piece I decided during its creation to leave them in place and include them, which looking at this piece now, I am grateful that I did because it reminds me that life is perfectly imperfect.
