Sweet Box Trio

Our three best-selling sweet box plants together, for winter scent and neat evergreen leaves in the shadier parts of the garden. Sarcococca confusa is our most popular, a dense, glossy shrub with small white flowers and black berries. Sarcococca 'Purple Stem' has dark purple stems and pink-tinged white flowers. Willow-leaf sweet box, Sarcococca saligna, brings narrow, glossy leaves and red-purple berries.All three flower from December to March, when little else does, and the small flowers of confusa and Purple Stem carry the sweet scent sweet box is known for. They share the same easy needs: part or full shade and soil that stays moist but drains well. Plant them by a door or along a shady path where you will catch the scent on a winter morning.Sarcococca confusa and Purple Stem are rated RHS H5, hardy across the UK.
