Rather than simply reproducing the original, THE H.W.DOG&CO. has reworked the idea with its own knit pattern and silhouette. One of the most distinctive details is the knitting pattern that continues from the folded cuff into the crown. It gives the cap a more dimensional appearance than a typical watch cap, adding just enough character to an otherwise simple, solid-colored knit. The material is 100% high-quality Australian merino wool. It provides the warmth you'd expect from wool while offering a comfortable feel against the skin. Naturally, it works well with military and workwear styles, but we think it would look equally good with a wool coat or a slightly more refined jacket. Spiral Note What Were American Red Cross Knit Caps? During World War II, large numbers of sweaters, scarves, socks and knit caps were produced for servicemen through the American Red Cross. What's particularly interesting is that many of these items were not mass-produced in factories. Instead, volunteers knitted them by hand using distributed knitting patterns. As a result, surviving vintage examples can show variations in knitting, sizing and overall silhouette. The RC KNIT CAP takes inspiration from those handmade American Red Cross knit caps of the 1940s. Rather than making a direct copy of a vintage piece, THE H.W.DOG&CO. has interpreted the idea through its own original knit pattern and silhouette. The cap is made from 100% Australian merino wool.
