Godspell is a colourful musical adaptation of the Off-Broadway stage production created by John-Michael Tebelak, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. Set against the streets and landmarks of New York City, the film follows a group of young people who come together to perform a series of parables and teachings drawn from the Gospel of Matthew. Victor Garber stars as Jesus, alongside Katie Hanley as one of the principal performers and David Haskell as John the Baptist and Judas. Directed by David Greene, the film combines theatrical performance, contemporary music and imaginative New York locations, capturing the distinctive countercultural atmosphere of the early 1970s. The soundtrack includes the well-known songs Day by Day, Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord and All for the Best. Released in 1973, Godspell remains a notable example of the era's musical cinema, combining religious themes with the visual style and youthful energy of the period. This original US One Sheet features the colourful ensemble artwork and distinctive Godspell lettering, reflecting the film's theatrical origins and 1970s design. An appealing original cinema poster for collectors of vintage musicals, 1970s films and theatrical adaptations.
