João Hamilton
We are very happy to once again share a coffee from João Hamilton in Brazil! This year’s coffee is a natural processed Catucaí from his farm Sitio Canaã in Caconde, São Paulo. An elegant and smooth coffee with flavours of ripe blackberry, bright orange, and creamy milk chocolate. João Hamilton is a producer who never really stands still. For many years, he has worked together with FAFCoffees to develop both the quality of the coffee and the farming methods around him. Today, he is also part of FAF Future Farmers - a project focused on regenerative agriculture, biodiversity, and healthier soils for the future of coffee production. For João, it’s not about quick fixes, but about building a farming system that works long term - both for nature and for the people working there. Sitio Canaã is located at 1300 metres above sea level in the area around Caconde, where warm days and cool nights help the coffee cherries develop both sweetness and complexity. Together with the natural process and the Catucaí variety, this creates a coffee that feels both classic and vibrant at the same time. The creamy chocolate is balanced by ripe fruit and bright citrus notes that make the cup feel both smooth and lively. João’s coffee journey began back in 1979, during a time when Brazilian coffee farming focused more on volume than quality. After many years of hard work and depleted soils, he came into contact with FAFCoffees and was introduced to what he today calls the “Agriculture of Life.” Since then, the farm has gradually transformed through selective harvesting, improved processing methods, tree planting, and a stronger focus on soil health and biodiversity. Today, João’s work extends far beyond his own farm. Through his involvement in the Serra dos Ciganos community and projects like Future Farmers, he continues to inspire other producers in the region to work more long term and quality focused. Over time, Sitio Canaã has become a clear example of how sustainability, regenerative agriculture, and truly great coffee can go hand in hand. For us, João has become a recurring favourite - not only because the coffee tastes amazing year after year, but because it represents exactly the kind of coffee future we want to help build.
