Designed by Van Cleef & Arpels in France circa 1939, the “Sailor with the Accordion” brooch is crafted in 18kt yellow gold with a cabochon ruby, bead coral, and 12 round diamonds. The figure features a ruby nose and diamond eyes, seated on a braided rope motif while playing a diamond-edged accordion. Measuring approximately 1.75" long by 1.425" wide and weighing 16 grams, it is signed VAN CLEEF & ARPELS with partial Péry & Fils maker’s mark and French assay marks. A vintage piece from the 1930s design period, it reflects the house’s interest in musician-themed figures of the era.
