Samaw Dance Company & Art House Productions presents Resonance Repertoire Thursday, July 9th at 7:30pm Samaw Dance Company is a Brooklyn-based ensemble that uplifts AAPI+ and queer artists through performance, and community activation. Resonance Repertoire brings excerpts from Resonance, our flagship immersive dance experience, to Jersey City for the first time and celebrates the Jersey City community! The performance features three suites: Societal Pressures, exploring the weight of assimilation and expectation; Humanizing the Perpetual Foreigner, examining cultural dissonance, and the complexity of belonging; and Celebrating Queer Asian Identity, a joyful, movement-driven exploration of chosen family and visibility. The work moves through contemporary, jazz, hip hop, house, and waacking dance forms. Choreographed and directed by David Cartahena Lee Performed by: Alexis Maluski, Asha Yates, Beatrice Reyes, David Cartahena Lee, Destiny Nguyen, Jenn Tran, Julia Sitch, Eva Schmidt, Mags Bartek, and Youran Lee Doors open at 6:30 PM for a pre-show activation experience featuring local community partners, a tanzaku-inspired wish-making station, and a paper star folding activity. Performance begins at 7:30 PM, followed by an artist talk-back with the cast.
