SOUTH AFRICA - HOME SHIRT 2010 South Africa's national team are one of African football's most spirited sides, representing the rainbow nation and carrying the dreams of a country that became the first on the continent to host the FIFA World Cup. This legacy has been shaped by iconic figures such as Lucas Radebe, Doctor Khumalo, Mark Fish, Benni McCarthy, and Quinton Fortune, whose brilliance has defined South African football across generations. South Africa wore this iconic home shirt at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the tournament they hosted under returning Brazilian manager Carlos Alberto Parreira. Bafana Bafana kicked the whole competition off at Soccer City in Johannesburg with a 1-1 draw against Mexico - a match made unforgettable by Siphiwe Tshabalala's stunning curling opener, the iconic image of the entire tournament. A 3-0 defeat to Uruguay in Pretoria followed, before a 2-1 victory over France in Bloemfontein on the final group matchday - Bongani Khumalo and Katlego Mphela with the goals - provided a moment of redemption. It was not enough, however, and South Africa became the first host nation in World Cup history to be eliminated at the group stage. As of 2026, Bafana Bafana are heading back to the FIFA World Cup for the first time since hosting the tournament in 2010, having sealed qualification with a 3-0 win over Rwanda on the final matchday of African qualifying. Drawn into Group A alongside hosts Mexico, South Korea and Czechia, South Africa - led by Belgian manager Hugo Broos, who won the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon - kick off the entire World Cup against Mexico at the Estadio Azteca on 11 June, a poetic rematch of the 2010 opener sixteen years on.
