Malaya is a pyrope-spessartite intermediate and the Tanzanian material produces a deep reddish orange to orange-red that shifts with lighting — warmer and more orange in incandescent, cooler and redder in daylight. It occupies a distinct color space from both straight rhodolite and straight spessartite. All three are clean with good transparency. The largest piece weighs 1.5 grams on its own and is the anchor of the lot — substantial enough for a well-proportioned finished stone with real presence. The two smaller pieces round out the lot nicely.
