Hank Gruner
La Madre y El Niño is the first book by artist Hank Gruner — a reflection of his creative practice partnered with his cultural heritage, told by storytelling his adoption from Colombia to Sweden, his upbringing, finding art, and researching his ancestral lineage. The book gathers a personal history alongside the artworks, sculptures and commissions that have grown from it — including pieces produced for the likes of Our Legacy, and a new artwork commissioned by Selfridges to mark the book’s launch. Gruner moves between image, object and memory, building a sustained body of work that reads as continuous research: a search for cultural lineage and the connection between the two worlds he belongs to. In Gruner’s words: “La Madre y El Niño is a reflection of my creative practice partnered with my cultural heritage. By storytelling my adoption from Colombia to Sweden, my upbringing, finding art, researching my ancestral heritage, and the experiences that helped me understand myself. My work is a reflection of this, a continuous research of finding cultural lineage and connection between these two worlds.” Published by Mörel in partnership with Selfridges. Designed by Simon Graf.
