Saucer - Splash Red

A stoneware saucer with a red splash glaze, made in Germany.The form is shallow and flat, with a clean vertical edge rather than a curved rim. At Ø 11.5 cm it sits beneath an espresso cup, holds a tea bag, or works as a small dish for olives, salt, or condiments. The proportion follows the Japanese mamezara – the small "bean plate" used for individual servings at the table.Each piece is shaped from stoneware clay and fired at 1220 °C. At this temperature the body vitrifies and becomes food-safe without further sealing. The interior carries a single splash of red glaze applied by hand; the surrounding areas are finished in a transparent glossy glaze that lets the clay body show through.
