A vibrant Mediterranean red from high-altitude vineyards in Terra Alta, this 2023 Olbieta Negre by Marco Abella captures the freshness, elegance and aromatic purity of one of Spain’s most distinctive inland wine regions. Tasting Notes: Deep ruby in colour, the wine opens with expressive aromas of ripe red berries, cherries and wild strawberries, lifted by subtle balsamic and herbal undertones. On the palate it is fresh and fruit-driven, with generous notes of red and black fruit framed by a smooth, supple texture. Grenache brings brightness and juiciness, Carignan adds structure and depth, while Syrah lends a gentle spicy edge. A short period of oak ageing introduces soft hints of spice and roundness, leading to a balanced, elegant finish with notable freshness. Winemaking: Made from 80% Grenache, 15% Carignan and 5% Syrah, each variety is harvested and fermented separately to preserve its individual character. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel to retain primary fruit aromas, followed by maturation for around three months in French oak barrels, adding subtle complexity without overpowering the wine’s natural vibrancy. The vineyards, rooted in limestone-rich, low organic matter soils at altitude, contribute to the wine’s tension and Mediterranean clarity.
