It is called the Baby Chair — and the name, for once, is not diminutive. It simply describes what this is: a smaller chair, built for the arm and upper body work that the Wunda Chair’s larger spring and pedal configuration cannot deliver with the same precision. The Small Arm Chair brings the practitioner into a seated position from which the springs work the arms, shoulders, and back in ways that standing or lying work cannot replicate. The chair holds the pelvis and spine — giving the upper body a stable, organised foundation from which to move — so that the work reaches precisely where it is intended, without the compensatory patterns that arise when the whole body is asked to stabilise and move simultaneously. The exercises performed here develop genuine shoulder girdle strength and mobility: the kind that opens a rounded upper back, resets chronically elevated or protracted shoulders, and rebuilds the connection between the arms and the deeper muscles of the back that the classical method returns to again and again. For practitioners who carry tension and restriction across the shoulders and thoracic spine — which is to say, for most practitioners — the Baby Chair addresses patterns that other apparatus leaves largely untouched. In the classical tradition it also serves as a bridge — offering the chair repertoire from a position of greater support while the strength and stability required for the full Wunda Chair work continues to develop.
