Preludio
Henry Purcell (1659–1695) was one of England's greatest Baroque composers, admired for his expressive vocal writing and inventive harmonies. He composed sacred music, chamber works, and groundbreaking theater pieces including incidental music for plays such as Good Luck at Last (also known as The Virtuous Wife). The music features lively dances and expressive songs, reflecting his gift for enhancing drama with elegant and witty music.Preludio is one of nine selections written for this work. It has a grand and celebratory sound. It is an excellent example of Baroque style and would be a great training piece for this bowing technique. The music is strong and rhythmic, in D major, and would make an excellent "grounding" selection for concert or festival.
