Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 6239 Black Dial
Introduced in 1963, the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona was designed with race car drivers in mind, featuring a tachymeter bezel to measure average speeds. Initially slow to gain traction, its popularity surged through Rolex’s partnership with the Daytona International Speedway. The “Daytona” name began appearing on dials around 1964–1965, strengthening its connection to the legendary Daytona 500. Over time, the model evolved from hand-wound movements to automatic calibres in 1988, and later to contemporary ceramic bezels—yet it has remained one of the most sought-after chronographs ever produced. Presented here is a stainless steel reference 6239, featuring an excellent case, a polished steel tachymeter bezel, and correct non-screw-down “pump” pushers. The black dial is equally well preserved, with crisp white “Rolex Cosmograph Daytona” printing on the upper half, complemented by clean silvered sub-dials. The lume has aged to a rich mustard tone across both the hour plots and hands, and the dial is signed “T Swiss T” at 6 o’clock. The watch is fitted with a U.S.-market “C&I” Oyster bracelet, featuring spring-loaded links and a clasp stamped 1/66.
