Gardener’s Notes: Sow seeds 3-4 inches apart into fertile, well-drained soil after frost danger is over and night temperatures are warmed above 50°F (10°C). Or, start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost and transplant. Thin or transplant established seedlings to final spacing of 6-8 inches apart in beds, or 4 inches apart in containers. Water consistently to maintain soil moisture; keep water off leaves to prevent mildew.
