Sanguisorba tenuifolia var. alba (White Burnet) Sanguisorba tenuifolia var. alba is a tall and elegant burnet with a refined, airy presence that brings real grace to the late-summer border. It produces attractive mounds of finely divided, blue-green pinnate foliage from which tall, slender stems rise to carry long, drooping white bottlebrush flowerheads that sway beautifully in the breeze from midsummer into autumn. A superb plant for pollinators, it is particularly attractive to bees and butterflies. The pure white flowers and tall, willowy habit of this variety make it a superb companion for grasses, Persicaria, Veronicastrum, and other late-season perennials in naturalistic or prairie-style plantings. Its height gives it presence at the back of a border, while its light, transparent quality means it never feels heavy or imposing. The flowerheads remain attractive as they fade and dry, extending the display well into autumn.
