Vintage Japanese Haribako 4 drawer sewing box

A tidy little 4 drawer Haribako sewing box with a unique recessed top. The top drawer can be pulled out and fits perfectly into the top. In the corner of the top drawer is a curious wooden peg. This is actually called a kakehari or "third hand" and can be used to hold fabric or embroidery being worked on and to pull it taught. Called a Hari Bako, sewing boxes like this were used to store sewing implements, threads, scissors, needles etc. Now they are perfect for stationary, jewellry, small treasures, Phones, keys etc. Measures 29.5cm deep x 21cm wide x 26cm high Found in Kyoto on our recent trip in August.
