Rememberance · Original Acrylic Painting on Canvas
Remembrance Original Acrylic Painting on Canvas · 50 x 50 cm · approx 20 in x 20 inches A tree of ancestral roots, painted while my grandmother Pearl's presence moved through me. The Story: A lone tree stands rooted at the center of this piece, its branches full and green, its roots spreading wide and deep beneath a wash of warm, dreamlike color. Around it, the canvas dissolves into loose, whimsical abstraction — swirling color and texture that feel more like memory than a fixed place. A small figure sits by a winding river at the tree's roots, held in golden light. Fragments of words drift through the background like a prayer half-remembered. I believe ancestral healing is part of the work each generation carries — that a woman's eggs are already present inside her grandmother's womb. Our stories, wounds, and strengths are woven together before we arrive. As I painted, I kept feeling my grandmother Pearl's presence move through me. The roots became my ancestral roots, and the woman seated at the base of the tree began to feel like my grandmother and myself, merged into one — two parts of the same memory. I don't know exactly what surfaced as I painted this. But I kept returning to the same feeling: that there is something ancient beneath the surface, waiting to be remembered — and that the light is always there, feeding the roots from above and below.
