A turbine that looks good on purpose. Most wind gear is bought in spite of how it looks. Put a propeller on a pole in a garden, a resort forecourt or a streetscape and someone will object to it — too industrial, too spinny, too much like a farm. So the pole never goes up, and the site that could have made its own power doesn't. The V-500W is a tulip-form vertical turbine: three curved petals around a short mast, 1.74 m tall, turning slowly and quietly, in white, purple or green. It is designed for the places where appearance is part of the engineering brief — gardens, villas, scenic areas, entries and streetscapes — and it takes wind from any direction without a tail or a yaw hunt. Straight up about the numbers: the 500 W rating is measured at 14 m/s — a 50 km/h blow — and maximum output is 520 W. In everyday breezes you will see a small fraction of that. You are buying a working sculpture that trickle-charges a battery bank, not a power station, and we would rather say that plainly than sell you a number. Where The Power Curve Should Be The manufacturer has never supplied a measured power curve for this model, so we cannot show output against wind speed the way we do on our horizontal turbines. We could calculate a plausible-looking curve and present it as measured — plenty of sellers do — but we would rather tell you it is missing and keep asking the factory for the real one. What It Solves The objection problem: a turbine that reads as landscaping gets approved — by councils, partners and neighbours — where a propeller on a mast gets vetoed. The showcase site: resorts, wineries, visitor centres and entry statements that want their sustainability visible and tidy. Garden and streetscape power: feature lighting, irrigation controllers and gate gear fed from a bank the turbine keeps topped up. The swirly courtyard: wind between buildings changes direction constantly — a vertical takes it from all sides without hunting. The night-time top-up: panels stop at dusk; a breeze keeps trickling amp hours into the bank until morning. Key Features Three colours: white, purple or green — pick the one that suits the site instead of hiding the machine. Takes wind from any direction: 360-degree auto windward, no tail vane, no yaw mechanism. Starts at 2 m/s: a 7 km/h breath gets the petals moving. 24V or 48V: matches the battery bank behind it. Compact form: 1 m rotor, 1.74 m blade height — garden-scale, not farm-scale. Permanent magnet generator: 3-phase AC synchronous, NdFeB magnets, IP54, rated to 4500 m altitude. Two layers of protection: electromagnetic brake for overspeed and overload, with dump load. Two controller choices: the HECR wind-solar hybrid (runs panels too) or the pure-wind WCMD MPPT — pick either as a kit, or take the turbine only. Kit, Or Turbine Only The kit pairs the turbine with the manufacturer's own listed controller for your voltage — LHECR0824 on 24V, LHECR1248 on 48V — plus the dump-load resistor. The hybrid part matters: the same box takes a solar array on a PWM input (up to 1000 W of PV on the 24V unit, 1200 W on the 48V), so one controller runs the turbine and panels together. Never going to run solar? Pick With Pure-Wind Controller for the manufacturer's pure-wind unit instead — LWCMD800W-24V on 24V, LWCMD800W-48V on 48V, no PV input at all. Already sorted for control? Pick Turbine only. What Else You'll Need A mounting the site deserves, cable sized for the run, breakers and an isolator, and a battery bank to feed. Cable sizing depends on run length, voltage and current — that is your electrician's call. Browse bus bars, breakers and wiring in the Electrical Supplies collection, and the full controller range here. Representative photos: the manufacturer supplies one set of photographs per turbine family, not per model, and the units shown include larger tulips from the same family. The V-500W you receive is this design at the sizes in the spec table — 1 m across the rotor and 1.74 m tall. Q & A Will it really make 500 watts? At 14 m/s — a 50 km/h blow — that is the manufacturer's rating, with a 520 W maximum. In ordinary garden breezes expect a small fraction of that, trickling in around the clock. No measured curve exists for this model and we will not fake one. Is this the right turbine for maximum power? No — and that is not its job. Watt for watt, a horizontal turbine in clean air makes more power for less money; look at our horizontal range if output per dollar is the brief. The V-500W is for sites where a machine that looks industrial would never be approved in the first place. How windy a site can it live on? Its survival rating is 35 m/s — 126 km/h. That is genuinely strong wind, but it is a lower ceiling than our horizontal turbines carry, and it is not a cyclone-coast figure. If your site can see more than 126 km/h, this is the wrong machine for it, full stop. Does the kit controller take solar panels? Yes. The HECR series is a wind-solar hybrid: wind charges through MPPT and a solar array connects to the same unit on PWM — up to 1000 W of PV on the 24V model, 1200 W on the 48V. Never running panels? Pick With Pure-Wind Controller — the WCMD units have no PV input at all. Is the cable from the turbine AC or DC? AC. The turbine generates 3-phase AC; the rectifier inside the controller converts it to DC, and the DC charges the battery. The voltage on the cable rises with rotor speed — which is why the controller is built to take far more than the nominal battery voltage on its input. Cable selection and protection are your electrician's job. What does it weigh, and how does it ship? 42 kg net on the scales. It ships in a 1760 × 650 × 570 mm carton at 44 kg gross — plan the unload as a two-person job and have the mounting site sorted before it arrives. What is the warranty position? Twelve months. Professional installation by a licensed electrician is a condition of it — keep the electrician's invoice. The manufacturer treats blade damage from consistently extreme wind, and motor burnout after prolonged high-speed running, as case-by-case assessments rather than automatic cover. How long until it arrives? Built to order and sea-freighted — allow 4 to 6 weeks (up to 7 for WA and regional addresses). Delivery is free to Australia and New Zealand. The kit arrives as separate boxes: the turbine, and the controller with its dump load.
