Pour in spring water and bring to a rolling boil. Boil on high heat for 5 minutes, then reduce to a gentle simmer and continue to simmer for 15–20 minutes. Strain before drinking and serve warm. Do not consume if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and keep out of reach of children. If you have a medical condition, including kidney disease, heart disease, bowel disorders, or persistent abdominal pain, or if you are taking prescription medication, consult a healthcare professional before use. Cascara sagrada is a natural stimulant laxative and should not be used for prolonged periods, as excessive use may cause dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, or dependence.
