The Epiphyllum chrysocardium, also known as the Fern Leaf Cactus or Golden Heart Epiphyllum, is a unique tropical cactus prized for its deeply lobed, fern-like foliage and spectacular fragrant white flowers that bloom at night. Unlike desert cacti, this rare epiphytic houseplant thrives in humid environments, making it a stunning indoor plant for hanging baskets, shelves, and tropical plant collections. Light: Epiphyllum chrysocardium thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate gentle morning or evening sun, but avoid strong direct sunlight, which can scorch the flattened stems. Bright filtered light will encourage healthy growth and improve the chances of flowering. Water: Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly, ensuring excess water drains away freely. As an epiphytic cactus, it prefers slightly more moisture than desert cacti but should never be left sitting in water.
