Lessons from the Story of Yoosuf By Abdur-Rahman Nasir as-Sa'di
About This Book Soorat Yoosuf is described by Allah as ahsan al-qasas — the most beautiful of stories — and no other soorah tells a single Prophet's life so completely. In Lessons from the Story of Yoosuf, Shaykh 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Nasir as-Sa'di walks through the major events of the life of Prophet Yoosuf (peace be upon him) — from the plot of his brothers and the well, to slavery, false accusation and prison, and finally to his being given authority over the treasuries of Egypt — and draws out the beneficial lessons a believer can apply today. Concise, warm, and firmly rooted in the Qur'an, the book is less a retelling than a teacher's reflection: at each turn the Shaykh pauses to show what the believer should take from it — in creed, in character, and in the ordinary matters of family and daily life. What This Book Covers Tawheed and Trust in Allah How Yoosuf (peace be upon him) held firmly to belief in Allah alone through every hardship, called others to tawheed even in prison, and relied upon his Lord when all worldly means had closed — the very heart of the story. Beautiful Patience Through Trial The lessons of sabr jameel (beautiful patience) and contentment with Allah's decree, seen in both Yoosuf and his father Ya'qoob (peace be upon them), and how relief comes after hardship for those who trust their Lord. Chastity, Taqwa, and Fleeing from Sin The example of Yoosuf turning away from temptation and preferring prison to disobedience — a lasting lesson in guarding oneself, fearing Allah in private, and fleeing from the causes of sin. Forgiveness, Family, and Everyday Wisdom Practical guidance drawn from the story: the harm of jealousy between siblings, wisdom in raising children, patience with family, and the noble forgiveness Yoosuf showed his brothers once Allah had raised him. About the Author Shaykh 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Nasir as-Sa'di (1307–1376 AH / 1889–1957 CE) was among the most beloved and widely-read scholars of the Arabian Peninsula, based in 'Unayzah in the Qaseem region. He is best known for his celebrated tafsir, Taysir al-Karim al-Rahman, and for a teaching method praised for its clarity, structure, and reliance on evidence. Among his many students was Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-'Uthaymin. His works remain a trusted first point of reference for students and general readers alike. Who This Book Is For Anyone who loves the stories of the Prophets and wants to move beyond the events to their practical lessons: families teaching their children, believers passing through their own trials, new Muslims, and students of knowledge seeking as-Sa'di's reflective, evidence-based approach.
