HUGH HAMILTON LARRIKIN CABERNET SHIRAZ 2021
It needs a bit of a larrikin to take two traditionally very separate varieties and just slap them together, but that’s just what pioneering Australian winemakers did – and the combo works exceptionally well. An Australian classic. McLaren Vale might be famous for Shiraz, but Cabernet thrives here too. With good harvesting decisions you can create a blend with lift and elegance, but also with a rich, full palate — exactly what The Larrikin delivers. Begins with a frisson of fine French oak and smoky sandalwood before plunging into a full fruit basket; plums, mulberries, blackberries, and blackcurrants. The palate pulses with fruit-filled verve, with rosehip and cocoa notes, plus leather, bay and thyme. Blend: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Shiraz Drink: now through 5 years Food match: slow roast leg of lamb or rosemary garlic Hasselback potatoes (but probably both just to be sure) McLaren Vale, South Australia | Cabernet Sauvignon / Shiraz | 14.8% ABV | Vegan Friendly
