Blue Poppy 7

By the time I photographed this poppy, it was already beginning to turn away and collapse into itself. The blue that Woodson and Byrd sprayed onto the white petals caught in the creases and edges as they dried. I have always loved flowers at this stage, when perfection has passed and something far more interesting takes its place. There is a fragility to it, but also a strange kind of strength.
