Jérôme Prévost’s La Closerie is one of Champagne’s most distinctive grower estates, built around a philosophy of vineyard expression, minimal intervention and a belief in the potential of individual terroirs. Based in Gueux, just west of Reims, Prévost established the domaine in 1998 after formative years working alongside Anselme Selosse, developing a style that challenged conventional ideas of Champagne production. Best known for his extraordinary work with old vine Pinot Meunier in Les Béguines, Prévost’s rare Grand Cru cuvée explores a different dimension of Champagne, bringing together the power, structure and mineral precision of some of the region’s finest classified vineyards. La Closerie Grand Cru is an extremely limited cuvée combining Chardonnay from Le Mesnil sur Oger and Pinot Noir from Puisieulx, two Grand Cru terroirs with very different expressions of Champagne’s chalk soils. The blend brings together the tension and citrus driven purity of Chardonnay with the depth, texture and vinous character of Pinot Noir. The wine is vinified and aged entirely in wood, allowing greater texture and complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit. After extended ageing on lees, the wine is finished with a low dosage of 2.5g/L. Aromas of white peach, citrus peel and orchard fruit are layered with toasted almond, brioche, floral notes and subtle chalky minerality. The palate is rich yet precise, with fine structure, saline freshness and a long, elegant finish that showcases Prévost’s ability to create Champagne of remarkable depth and individuality.
