During the Great Depression (1929–1933), severe poverty forced mothers across South Africa, Australia, and the USA to use incredible creativity to dress their families. Flour was sold in fabric bags back then, so industrious women washed, bleached, and softened the cotton sacks to sew clothing for their children. The first South African Bokomo pants (Meelbroeke) were born out of this brilliant resourcefulness! While modern flour is packaged in plastic and polypropylene, we have revived this unique style by printing the exact classic designs onto durable, heavy-duty woven cotton. It is a stylish tribute to past innovation, built for modern kids! Care Instructions To keep your vintage-style overalls looking vibrant, wash separately for the first one or two cycles. These children's dungarees might be a little stiff and hard when you buy them, mostly due to the colouring process, but after a wash or two, they become soft and before long, your kiddo will be living in them!
