Salsa Morada Hot Sauce
Packed with delicious flavor, this well balanced all natural hot sauce is made by Sakari Farms, an indigenous farm in Tumalo, Oregon. Salsa Morada is a special mole all its own thanks to the purple Buena Mulata peppers they grow on the farm. I'd call this a medium heat hot sauce. It's starts off with fruity sweet notes and gives way to a spicy back end with a good kick that won't kill your taste buds but makes its presence known. It's the kind of hot sauce you just can't stop yourself from eating. Unlike so many hot sauces that just give you heat, this delivers flavor first and foremost. Best of all the heat does not build so you just keep going back for more. We found ourselves emptying a bag of chips and downing quite a lot of a bottle when we tried it! It's a key ingredient in my black chickpea hash. Fun fact: The Buena Mulata pepper traces its roots to Horace Pippin, a celebrated African American folk artist and gardener in 1940s Philadelphia, who stewarded this striking purple-to-red cayenne alongside a tight-knit Black catering community that prized its smoky, complex heat. This rare heirloom was nearly lost to history before food historian William Woys Weaver preserved it from his grandfather's seed collection — and today, its legacy lives on through the hands of small, indigenous farmers keeping that tradition of seed stewardship alive.
